Description

Working in collaboration with Issam Houshan, David of Scandinavia and Talia Soleil, you’ll have a chance to take a deep dive into some exciting Middle Eastern rhythms, and discover their unique characteristics. Issam will then play a progression of these rhythms, and the class will have a chance to practice dancing improv to his live playing. Everyone will be dancing their own dance within the room, and no pressure is put on anyone to 'perform' in front of the class. Your coaches will be available for assistance and ideas, but you are encouraged to have fun, enjoy learning, try new things, laugh, explore, and release yourself from the limiting belief that you need to be perfect. That only stops us from growing. As we gather in a circle, students may jump in and try their improv (or choreography), or you may opt out and just enjoy supporting your dance ohana (family). For those who shudder thinking about improv, creating a loose choreography to the short drum solo is absolutely fine. You may work solo or in a small group. This is YOUR time to dance with a live drummer, and a fabulous one, at that.
